The Rochester NY theater world is buzzing with excitement as The Ensemble Theatre Company of New York prepares for its upcoming season. The Dresser is preparing for to the July 24, 2026 opening, but the team at TETCNY is already looking ahead to a lineup of compelling productions.
Our initial production in Rochester, THE LION IN WINTER , won five out of eight nominations in the BROADWAY WORLD THEATRE AWARDS for 2025. We are hopeful that THE DRESSER will match , if not surpass , the success and the audience enjoyment of our premiere piece.
These shows promise to bring rich stories and powerful performances to the stage, exploring themes of family, history, resilience, and identity. Let’s take a closer look at what audiences can expect from TETCNY's future productions.
The Crimson Thread by MARY HANES: A Story of Irish Sisters Across Generations
The first production on the horizon is The Crimson Thread by Mary Hanes. This play traces the lives of three generations of Irish sisters, weaving their stories through pivotal moments in history. The narrative begins during the Potato Famine, a devastating period that forced many Irish families to seek new lives abroad. It then moves to the experience of first-generation Americans, capturing the challenges and hopes of immigrants trying to build a future in a new land.
The story culminates in the aftermath of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, a tragic event that deeply affected immigrant communities in New York City ,as well as women's rights and worker protections.
Through the eyes of these sisters, the play explores themes of survival, family bonds, and the pursuit of justice. The historical backdrop adds depth and urgency, making The Crimson Thread a powerful reminder of the struggles and resilience of immigrant families.
This production will resonate with audiences interested in history, social justice, and family dynamics. It offers a chance to reflect on how past events shape present identities and communities.
Diversions & Delights by JOHN GAY
: Oscar Wilde’s Final Paris Lecture
Next on the schedule is Diversions & Delights by John Gay. This play presents a unique moment in the life of Oscar Wilde, focusing on a lecture he gives in a small Parisian hall on November 28, 1899. At this point in his life, Wilde is down but not out, grappling with the consequences of his public trials and imprisonment.
The play captures Wilde’s wit, charm, and resilience as he engages with his audience despite personal hardships. It offers a glimpse into the mind of one of literature’s most fascinating figures during a time of reflection and reinvention. The intimate setting of the lecture hall allows for a close connection between Wilde and the audience, making the experience both personal and profound.
Diversions & Delights will appeal to fans of literary history, drama, and character-driven storytelling. It highlights the power of humor and intellect in the face of adversity.
Equus by Peter Shaffer : A Psychological Drama
The final planned production is Equus by Peter Shaffer, a psychological drama that delves into the complex relationship between a psychiatrist and a troubled young man. The play explores themes of passion, obsession, and the search for meaning, challenging audiences to confront uncomfortable questions about human nature and society.
Equus is known for its intense performances and thought-provoking narrative. It requires a strong cast and creative staging to bring its emotional depth to life. This offering is a gripping theatrical experience that stays with viewers long after the curtain falls.

SUPPORT LIVE THEATRE & TETCNY
We are dependent upon donations and support from local businesses and theatre lovers to help keep live theatre ALIVE . Ticket sales do not even begin to cover the costs of an average production, with rights, rehearsal hall rentals, performance space, props, costumes, scripts, set pieces, transport, printing costs, and other assorted expenses . As you are aware, costs everywhere are rising, but we would like to keep our shows affordable so people who feel that they cannot afford an evening of theatre are now able to do so. Please consider making a donation to The Ensemble Theatre Company of New York via FRACTURED ATLAS . https://fundraising.fracturedatlas.org/the-ensemble-theatre-company-of-new-york
If you have questions ,would like to work with our company, or would like to donate materials , please feel free to comment to TETCNY@gmail.com. Do put TETCNY in the heading so we will see that it is theatre related.
Thank you for all your support !
